Overview

Different features such as arch, nose tip, width, nostrils and curvature can be addressed in nose aesthetics. Skin thickness, cartilage support and the natural asymmetry of the face affect the change that can be achieved. During planning, intranasal structures and air passage are also examined; Respiratory assessment cannot be made based on photographs alone. The choice of open or closed approach depends on the arrangement to be made. Cartilage supports can be used if necessary. During the consultation, instead of copying a favorite example, it is explained what can be changed in the person's anatomy. Although computer visuals aid communication, they do not guarantee results and perfect symmetry should not be expected.

What is evaluated?

  • Front, side and bottom view; Examination of skin thickness, nasal tip support and facial proportions.
  • Evaluation of nasal obstruction, septum curvature, trauma and previous surgery history.
  • Clearly discussing which shape features are desired to change and the anatomical boundaries.

Approach and options

  • Open or closed approach can be chosen based on the required cartilage and bone arrangement.
  • Structural cartilage support can be evaluated as well as shaping for the tip and back of the nose.
  • If there is a respiratory problem, it may be discussed to consider the septum and related support structures in the same plan.

Recovery and follow-up

The use of splint, intranasal support or dressing varies depending on the procedure performed. Swelling, bruising, congestion, and nasal stiffness can affect early appearance. Recommendations for blowing your nose, glasses, exercise and impact protection are given separately. Because nose shape may change over time, early images do not represent the final result.

Risks and limits

  • Persistent difficulty breathing or new congestion.
  • Hole formation in the septum and intranasal healing problems.
  • Asymmetry, shape irregularity or need for revision.
  • Bleeding, infection, change in sensation or smell.

The headings here do not cover all risks. Possible benefits, alternatives and personal risks should be discussed in detail during the examination.

You can ask in the consultation

  • How will my appearance goals and my breathing be considered on the same plan?
  • What is the justification for the open or closed approach in my case?
  • How does my skin structure affect the definition of the nose tip that can be achieved?
