Overview
Laser skin resurfacing aims at restructuring by affecting the surface or deeper tissues of the skin in a controlled manner with light energy. Ablative methods may require a more significant healing process on the skin surface; In other approaches, the effect and rest requirement are different. The term fractional describes the distribution of treatment and does not by itself describe the strength or outcome of the device. The shape of acne scars, line depth and the cause of color changes are important for choosing the right method. In darker skin tones, the risk of pigment change after the procedure is also evaluated. Sun protection and compliance with controls are integral parts of the treatment.
What is evaluated?
- Skin tone, blemish type, scar depth and active skin disease are examined.
- History of herpes, recent sun exposure, and medications that affect healing are questioned.
- Assessment of the time available for redness to settle, aftercare and time away from social activities.
Approach and options
- Ablative or non-ablative laser options are compared according to target and skin type.
- Fractional application may be considered for selected tissue irregularities and scars.
- If the spot or scar structure is not suitable, peeling, microneedling or other treatments are evaluated.
Recovery and follow-up
Redness, burning sensation, edema and crusting may occur with the selected method. A skin care and sun protection plan is personal; Picking off the scabs may impair healing. The skin is expected to heal before returning to make-up and active products. Persistent redness or discoloration is evaluated at check-ups; Results are not guaranteed with a single session.
